RELEASE DAY REVIEW: The Do-Gooder by Jessie L. Star

Title: The Do-Gooder
Author: Jessie L. Star
Publisher: Pocket Star
Publication Date: February 20, 2017

Synopsis:
A college girl tries to make up for her bad karma by doing one good deed for anyone willing to ask—a witty, sweet romance perfect for fans of Christina Lauren and Abbi Glines.

Lara Montgomery is no good. Having been scorned by her classmates since high school, she’s used to it. From where she’s sitting, the one with more notches on the bedpost has more fun anyway. At least, that’s what she tells herself.

Really, a small part of her hopes that her massive amounts of bad karma can be neutralized by wearing her Do-Gooder hat—that thing she does where she’ll complete one good deed for anyone who asks. And she does an amazing job at it, if she does say so herself. Still, there’s one thing she knows she can’t make better, no matter how many problems she solves for other people: on the night her brother died, she was off hooking up with his not-so-single best friend, Fletch.

It’s been three years since that night, and Fletch just wants her to let it go. To him, her persistence with the good deeds only serves to remind everyone in their small university town about what they did. As it is, they can’t help but get into a heated argument every time they run into each other on campus. And yet, neither of them can seem to stop that pesky electricity that runs between them whenever they get too close….

Sonja's Review

The Do-Gooder intrigued me from the moment I saw the title, and after reading the synopsis, I couldn't wait to read it! The love/hate/fighting relationship is one of my favorite tropes and I'm always down for reading one. And Ms. Star definitely delivered - it was excellent and I enjoyed reading The Do-Gooder!

I can honestly say that in all the books I've read, with all the heroines I've met, I've never met one like Lara - she is without a doubt one of a kind. Lara is confident, driven, determined, and she tries to always be cool, calm, and collected. She's the type to hate irrationality (we bonded over that), she can be cold at times and push people away and while I didn't love that, I understood where she was coming from. Lara is prickly and sarcastic, but in a way that grows on you. I can't tell you for sure that I loved her, but I absolutely did like her - she's a good apple.

I loved Fletch - he's a really great guy! Even though he rags on Lara about her choice of doing all these good deeds, he's still there for her whenever she needs him. He's completely in love with her and despite the fact that she drives him crazy and visa versa, he, well, both of them can't stay away. Fletch doesn't need much explanation - he's warm, protective, and he will make you fall for him.

The Do-Gooder is humorous but serious, heartbreaking but heartwarming, and sweet and passionate. You can feel Fletch and Lara's desire leap from the pages and the sexual tension can be a little intense sometimes. It made me laugh, it made me cry, and every last bit of this story had me cheering for our hero and heroine to get their happy ending. I loved The Do-Gooder and I'm excited to see more of Ms. Star!

The Do-Gooder is a standalone, it's told from Fletch and Lara's POV, and they do get their happy ending.

RELEASE DAY BLITZ REVIEW: Wardrobe Malfunction by Samantha Towle

Title: Wardrobe Malfunction
Author: Samantha Towle
Release Date: February 18, 2017

Synopsis:
From New York Times bestselling author, Samantha Towle, comes a new standalone romantic comedy.

Vaughn West, Hollywood heartthrob, has been at the top of his game for years. He thinks he’s untouchable—until a betrayal brings him spiraling down. Now, everyone pities him, and if there’s one thing Vaughn hates, it’s pity.

After a few months of working his way through every available actress, pop star, model, and waitress in California, Vaughn needs to get his life back on track and focus on what he does best—making hit movies.

Charlotte Michaels is in love. Just not with one person.
Louis Vuitton…
Christian Dior…
Valentino…
Gucci…
And the list goes on.

Sadly, Charly’s limited bank account doesn’t allow her those luxuries, and the closest she gets are lucky finds in charity shops and working closely with some of those names in her job as a wardrobe assistant.

Now, Charly has landed the mother of all jobs—working on the new Vaughn West movie. Excited doesn’t even cut it.

Only things don’t go as planned, and it turns out that Vaughn is actually a jerk. A hot jerk, but a jerk nonetheless.

So, why do their clothes keep falling off whenever they’re around each other? And why can’t Charly keep her mind in the closet and off Vaughn?

Getting mixed up with a smart-mouthed, fashion-obsessed wardrobe assistant is the last thing Vaughn needs.

Getting mixed up with an arrogant, self-centered, obnoxious, jumped-up actor who has a lack of respect for fashion is the last thing Charly needs.

Things are about to get hot, dirty, and messy in Hollywood. Very messy. Especially if Charly’s closely guarded secret falls out of her closet.

Lia's Review

Wardrobe Malfunction is quite possibly Samantha Towle's best book since The Mighty Storm. I've read every book she's written, and this one right here was flipping amazeballs! I just love stories when the superstar falls for the girl next door.

This story is fun, sexy and smart. Set in the backdrop of a Hollywood movie, with a sexy but cynical actor and a wardrobe assistant that's crushed on him for years. Wardrobe Malfunction will have you rolling with laughter one minute and then fanning yourself from the sexiness the next.

In case you can't tell, I absolutely loved this book. This is one of Towle's absolute best.

Sonja's Review

I love Lauren Smith and any time the chance to read one of her books comes along, I always grab onto it! And how fortunate for me that this time it was The Rakehell's Seduction because I have been in the mood for historicals something fierce the past week or two, so it was just like getting to have my cake and eat it too. The Rakehell's Seduction was absolutely fabulous and I positively adored it!

Alex is a strong heroine, she's funny, a little mischievous, and she doesn't care for London or society at all. She loves the freedom she has living in the country and she's not going to let any man ruin that for her. Of course, it's not as easy to remember that when Mr. Ambrose Worthing, the notorious rakehell, arrives to seduce her and even though she knows better, she can't help the way she feels about him. But I can't blame her, she might give him her heart more readily than she meant to, but she definitely makes him work for her in the end. Alex is smart and lovely and I loved her.

And while there were times that Mr. Worthing made me roll my eyes at his foolish thoughts and made me want to shake him, I still loved that old rake! He's charming and fun and sexy and just good. Ambrose doesn't think he'd be good enough for or enjoy only one woman, but he can't resist Alex. He's determined, protective, and so sweet - Ambrose is just a wonderful hero!

The Rakehell's Seduction isn't a long read, but that didn't make any less good or full of heart. It was so fun, entertaining, and enjoyable to read. I loved every minute of it from the moments that made me laugh to the moments that made my heart ache. It was a delightful, passionate, excellent tale and I can't wait to read the next book!

The Rakehell's Seduction can be read as a standalone, it's told from Ambrose and Alex's POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after.

Sonja's Review

I'm no stranger to Ms. Webster's books. I've read a lot of them, I know to expect darkness and heartache, so I usually don't get nervous, but oh boy, was I nervous for This is Me, Baby. I was dreading it just because This Isn't You, Baby absolutely gutted me, it ripped out my heart and made me highly irrational and I can handle the gutting and the ripping, but I hate to be anything but rational, so you can imagine how hard of a book it was for me to read and how hesitant I was to start this one. You might be asking why I even decided to read it in the first place and it's because Ms. Webster is a favorite of mine and whether or not it's wise and I say that with love, I trust her and I took a chance on This is Me, Baby anyway. And I am so glad that I did because it was AH-MAHZ-ING and it made everything worth it - I just LOVED it!

I loved Brie - she's smart and fierce and she really is strong. She's had to go through so much in her short life and she's still going, she's still fighting, she hasn't given up and she won't. We've seen her at her worst and her most vulnerable and I still can't help but admire and respect her spirit. Brie is absolutely a tigress, but she's sweet and she has such a good heart too - she's just wonderful!

And oh, Ren, gosh, I didn't think it would be possible for me to love anyone more than my War, but if it was going to be anybody, it makes sense that it would have to be his son who took his place and Ren certainly did! I fell so hard for him, my heart is just completely his. He's patient, understanding, undeniably loyal and unflinchingly devoted. Ren cares so much for Brie, you never have to doubt that, not even for a second. He is beyond incredible - I just wholeheartedly love him!

I told you that I was really nervous going into This is Me, Baby, but it was pretty much all for nothing. Don't get me wrong, there were still times where it made me cry and broke my heart, but so much of it was full of hope and love and light, even in the dark. It was beautiful, touching, heart racing, and blood pounding. It was just everything that I've been missing in the last couple of War & Peace books and I utterly fell in love with it!

This is Me, Baby must be read after the previous books in the series, it's told from a few different points of view and Ren and Brie get their happily-ever-after!

READ WHEN YOU'RE IN THE MOOD FOR: cocky, funny, sexy, insightful, relatable.

Excerpt:
There was an awkward pause between us as the situation sank in, until finally, she let out with a resigned sigh. “Well,” she said agreeably as she rose from her chair. “It looks like my little sex-school adventure is going to turn into a shopping marathon instead.” She gave me a smile and held out her hand. “It was a pleasure to meet you, Luke.”

I came around to her side of the table to give her a hug. “You too, Charise.”

When we pulled away from each other, there was a devilish twinkle in her eye as she purred, “You know, Luke… Just because I’m not hiring you for sex, that doesn’t mean we can’t have a little fun off the clock. Armed with nothing but false information and your photograph, I flew all the way out here from Houston, and I have to say, you’re even more delicious than your picture. I’d hate to think the sexy vacation I was planning is actually going to be a complete letdown. I could use some company over the next couple of months while I’m here.”

I couldn’t contain my smirk as I answered, “That is one tempting offer, Charise. Truly. But I’m going to have to respectfully decline your generous proposition. Something tells me you’re going to have one hell of a vacation without me. Here,” I added, pulling out my wallet and digging around for my associate’s business card. “Maybe after you’ve torn up New York for a few days, you’ll decide to reroute to Sedona. Give Drake a call. He really knows his stuff.”

She took the card from my hand, flicking it around her fingers as she said, “I will. I promise.”

One of my brows raised as I added, “Although you strike me as someone who’s already well-schooled in this area.”

Charise grinned as she gave me a last peck on the cheek before jaunting across the patio and into the park.

My morning appointment was a bust, and my afternoon appointment wasn’t scheduled to be here for another two hours. Since now I had some time to kill, I decided to take a walk to clear my head. I asked Fernando to hold my table, then slipped out of the gated patio and into the courtyard.

Excerpt:
He wrapped his fingers around her wrist. “Stop.”
Yeah, that would have been the wise thing to do. Definitely. But she’d never been all that wise when it came to him so she used her free hand to tell him he was number one. With her middle finger. “How’s that for icy, you overgrown, knuckle-dragging oaf—”
Swearing beneath his breath, he caught that wrist too and stepped into her, making her not only shut the hell up but also stumble back a few steps, off balance. A tree came up against her back and Archer used that to his advantage, pinning her there with lots of solid muscle.
Her breath caught. At the sound he froze, his gaze going heavy-lidded as he stared at her mouth. Then he planted both hands flat on the huge tree on either side of her, framing her shoulders as he let out a long, careful exhale, resting his cheek against her hair. “You drive me crazy,” he murmured, his voice reverberating through his chest and into hers.
The words were such a contrast to his actions that it took her mind a moment to catch up.
“Yeah, well, right back at you,” she managed, thrown off by the effortless way he was leaning into her, holding her there with his weight, completely immobilizing her.
And that wasn’t her biggest problem.
It was turning her on.

Sonja's Review

I couldn't wait to read Archer and Elle's story when I first met them in The Trouble With Mistletoe and when I saw that Accidentally on Purpose was their story - well, you can imagine how excited I was for it! But of course, with me being me, I waited quite a bit longer than I needed to before I actually read and oh, I could just kick myself for waiting so long because it was amazing. It truly was and I deeply, wholeheartedly loved Accidentally on Purpose!

Man, that Elle is one tough cookie - seriously, she is made of steel! She's strong and independent, bossy and sassy, and fierce and confident. Elle is always okay even when she's not, she isn't afraid to stand up to Archer or tell him what to do - she has no fear. Sure, she's not always the warmest, most open person in the world and while she doesn't let her vulnerability show all the time, you do get to see the softer side to her as well. Elle is a bada*s, she's loyal to a fault, and there wasn't much that I didn't love about her - she's incredible.

Archer can be very frustrating at times and make you want to shake some sense into him, but he's impossible not to love. It's so obvious how much he cares for and about Elle and how she gets in past his barriers despite all his defenses and his intentions. Archer is noble and protective and honorable - he takes care of and watches over his people. He is such a great guy, perhaps even the best ever, and he completely and utterly stole my heart!

The main reason that I was so excited to for Archer and Elle's story was their whole love/hate, we-have-major-chemistry-and-sexual-tension thing going on. It is quite possibly one of my favorite troupes and Accidentally on Purpose certainly delivered that. It was an inferno of passion, sparring, and lust, but then it would calm down just enough for you to cool down while still feeling all warm, toasty, and melty inside. Accidentally on Purpose was beautiful, heartache-y, sweet, steamy, and heartwarming. It was positively brilliant and I hope that Ms. Shalvis has plenty more to come in this series because I just love and adore these wonderful characters!

Accidentally on Purpose is the third book in the Heartbreaker Bay series, but can be read as a standalone. It's told from Archer and Elle's POV, and yes, they do get their happily-ever-after and yes, it will make grin and melt!

RELEASE TOUR REVIEW: Sweet Summer Love by Sierra Hill

Title: Sweet Summer Love
Series: The Sweet Thing #3
Author: Sierra Hill
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: February 7, 2017
Logan
Everyone’s had a summer crush. One that’s etched into your memories so hard that it leaves an indelible mark, like a scar on your heart. For me, that crush is my first love, Carver Edwards. I met him at fifteen at summer camp, and for three perfect summers, he was mine. Until the blazing heat of the summer sun faded and reality crashed in. Carver went off to college, leaving me trapped in my small farming town, with no way of reaching him and a problem I needed solving.
Carver
As the senior captain of my college basketball team, all I’ve been focused on the past four years has been playing, school, getting drafted in the NBA, and steering clear of relationships. I didn’t want them. I had nothing to give another girl. I’d given it already. So, I built my rep as a player, and honed my natural ability to charm the pants off girls. It’s what I did. Who I was. Who I am.
Until March, when a lay-up during a tournament landed me in an emergency room, under the care of Logan Shaw – my first love. Of all the people I could run into, why did it have to be her? Not only did my face get split wide open, but so did the locks that held the pain I’d attempted to bury for so many years.
Now that she’s back in my life, we must face the truth and the consequences of our actions – even if it could destroy us. We must uncover the truths that have kept us shackled from moving forward. That could possibly set us free.

I'm a sports romance junkie. I've read so many: football, hockey, baseball, MMA. The one that I haven't come across very often is basketball, which is exactly why I wanted to read Sweet Summer Love.

Don't let the title mislead you, this little book is anything but sweet, it's downright spicy in the love scene department. At the heart of it is a second chance at love romance, two people from way opposite sides of the tracks that become teenage lovers, and a chance meeting a few years later.

While this story is a wee bit predictable, that didn't make it any less enjoyable. I really liked this story, it was well written and had a great male and female lead. I look forward to reading more from this author in the future.
