RELEASE BLITZ REVIEW: Insolent by Cynthia A. Rodriguez

Title: Insolent
Series: Sinister Fairy Tales Collection
Author: Cynthia A. Rodriguez
Genre: Dark Romance Fairy Tale Retelling
Release Date: December 9, 2019

There’s a girl screaming at the top of a hill,

Burdened by a duty she was born to fulfill.

There’s a quiet killer lurking nearby,

Watching as she wishes only to die.

She’s tasked by her mother to marry a man,

Until the demon from hell puts a wrench in the plan.

Their fates will twine in inconceivable ways.

But where one goes, the other cannot stay.

How could she fall for such a man, you ask?

For the girl with no heart, it was the easiest task.

Sonja's Review

I had only planned to read a couple of books in the Sinister Fairy Tales Collection, but after I read K. Webster’s Cold Queen and loved it so much, I got sucked into wanting to read the other re-tellings too. The pretty covers might have had something to do with it as well — I just can’t help myself when it comes to a beautiful cover! Anyway, Insolent is my second book in the series and I was excited to get into it because I love Merida from Brave, she’s totally fierce and independent and I was curious to see what Ms. Rodriguez would do with her and how she would change her story up. I think that Insolent is a good addition to this collection, but it did take a little getting used to. It was told from third person which I don’t have a problem with, but I had a problem connecting fully to Moira and Sol.

Insolent was just a different book, it kind of felt like it was taking place in Merida’s time, but it was actually set in modern times. I loved Moira and Sol and their romance, they were a good couple that complemented each other perfectly. If you’re also reading this collection or you want a Merida re-telling, I’d say go ahead and try Insolent out, it’s a unique story and it will definitely be a new experience for you.
