BLOG TOUR REVIEW: This Isn't Fair, Baby by K. Webster

This Isn’t Fair, Baby
War & Peace Series #6
by K. Webster
Publication Date: April 18, 2017
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Dark Romance

***This is the sixth book in the series. First five books must be read in order to fully understand this story line.***

The king in my world fell and a new one slid into place.
He wasn’t just.
He wasn’t FAIR.
He was cruel and hateful and twisted.

But I had this black king figured out.
Or so I thought.

The game became complicated because my black king had some new moves and one of those involved my heart. Hope trickled in for the briefest of moments.

That is, until my black king and my heart sided against me. Those two didn’t play FAIR. They used me as their pawn in a bigger game—a game I didn’t know how to play.

The laws changed. I didn’t play by their rules anymore, for the queen makes up her own.

I am not a pawn.
I am not theirs to use and abuse.
I belong to nobody.

There are new players on the board and they don’t play FAIR either. But the white king does know how to treat his queen. And together, they will make them pay.

All’s FAIR in love and war, right?
Definitely not this time.

***Warning***
This Isn’t Fair, Baby is a dark romance. Extreme sexual themes and violence, which could trigger emotional distress, are found in this story. If you are sensitive to dark themes, then this story is not for you.

Sonja's Review

I was nervous to read This Is Me, Baby, but not with This Isn't Fair, Baby. I was looking forward to it and while I experienced a little bit of nerves as I was reading, it didn't last long and I really enjoyed the story. This Isn't Fair, Baby was excellent and I completely loved it!

I liked Vee in the previous books, although I will admit that I thought she was pretty soft and not the strongest person ever, but that didn't make me think badly of her at all. I was totally wrong about her though. Vee is strong, fierce, feisty, and very much a bada*s. She has a core made of steel and I was cheering her on every step of the way. I was proud of Vee, I respected her, and I absolutely loved her!

I liked him in This is Me, Baby, but I fell head over heels for him in this book! I think it's easy to guess who the hero is going to be after a little while, but since I'm not sure if revealing who it is is a spoiler or not, so I won't tell you his name. I will tell you that you're going to love him though. He might be a villain, but he does have a good heart. He's protective, gentle, a man who keeps his word, and he can be sweet. He can be playful and fun too - I can't adequately explain why he's amazing or why I love him so much, but he is and I do. He just stole my heart and I know he'll steal yours too!

This Isn't Fair, Baby gave me some anxiety, made me furious, gave me heartburn, and made me tear up, but I had so much fun reading it too. It amused me, entertained me, put a smile and a smirk on face at times, and warmed my heart. I loved Vee and her guy so much, I rooted for them from the beginning and I couldn't get enough of them. This Isn't Fair, Baby was amazing and it was definitely the best last big book to end the series with!

This Isn't Fair, Baby must be read after the previous books in the War & Peace series. It's told from several points of view and Vee and her guy get their happy ending.

RELEASE TOUR REVIEW: Ghost in His Eyes by Carrie Aarons

Title: Ghost in His Eyes
Author: Carrie Aarons
Genre: Contemporary Romance
Release Date: April 23, 2017
He was as magnetic as a deadly hurricane to the shore.
Carson Cole was my first love. The boy I'd shared my whole self with.
He was the man who'd taken the other part of my soul and drowned it in the sea we'd grown up in.
And now he's back. Ten years later, and the demons of our past are still haunting every breath trapped between us.
She was as wild as the horses who owned the beach highways we drove down.
Blake Sayer was the beautiful daredevil who had me wrapped around her finger from the time we were seven.
Until a horrible accident stole every piece of joy from her life.
Ten years later, she's a shell of the girl she once was, and it's all my fault. The whispers of our history shackle her to the island I left behind.
Just like lost years and unspoken words, love had slipped from our fingers like grains of sand. We’d barely made it out alive last time, was it even possible to reconstruct the shattered pieces of us?

Author of romance novels such as Red Card and On Thin Ice, Carrie Aarons writes sexy, swoony and sarcastic characters who won't get out of her head until she puts them down on a page.
Carrie has wanted to be an author since the first time she opened a book, and can’t imagine a better or more maddening profession.
When she isn't in a writing coma, Carrie is chasing her Great Dane/Lab puppy through the dog parks of New Jersey, or trying to make her husband binge watch the latest Netflix craze.

Lia's Review

I have a serious girl crush on Carrie Aarons. Every book she churns out, she consistently draws me in with her words and characters. And each is so different from the last.

Ghost in His Eyes is a second chance romance, with a bit of angst, a lot of story and a lot of sexy. This may possibly be her best book yet. (I think I say that after every book of hers I read)

Carrie brings the coast and wild horses to life, her descriptions and three dimensional writing makes you feel as if you're right there.

This book is beautifully written, heartfelt and has all the feels. Whenever I finish a book of hers I can't wait for the next one. Carrie stepped up her game on this one. I'm dying for more reads by her.

Sonja's Review

I loved Ride Hard so much that I couldn't wait to read Ride Rough! I didn't care what the synopsis said or who was going to be the couple - I just wanted to read it. I wasn't disappointed at all to find out that it was Maverick's story and while I was expecting for it to be great, it was even better than I thought it would be. Ride Rough was absolutely amazing and I positively loved it!

I'm not for sure, but I don't think I looked at Alexa too favorably when we first met her in Ride Hard and I dimly remembered that when I first started Ride Rough, so I didn't think I would be too crazy about her. I thought she would frustrate me and while I felt that way in the beginning, it didn't take long before Alexa changed my mind. She really opens up her mind and realizes the truth of things and and she fights to set rights to them. She truly is strong and determined and she's pretty smart. I have to admire Alexa, she came so far and grew so much - she will definitely do you proud.

I loved Alexa, but she couldn't hold a candle to Maverick! He's a rough and rough, but he's a total softie underneath that exterior. He's loyal and genuine, real and true, and so protective. Maverick would do anything for Alexa, but not just her, he would help out his Ravens or anyone who needed his help without hesitation. He is a wonderful guy and it would have been impossible not to love this sweet, thoughtful, sexy man.

Even though I had some thought to how Ride Rough was going to play out once I knew whose story it was, it wasn't what I expected. Of course, you still have the danger and action and heartache and it's by no means easy, but there is fun and lightness to it too. It's full of passion, steam, beauty, and depth. Ride Rough was marvelous and I can't tell you how much I loved it or how much I'm looking forward to the next book!

Ride Rough can be read as a standalone, it's told from Maverick and Alexa's POV, and they do get their HEA.

EXCERPT:
“I want you. Feels like I’ve been wanting you my whole life.” Alexa peered up at him, her eyes so vibrant they were nearly green.

Maverick pulled back, her words hitting him in all kinds of places, some comfortable, some even healing, but some less so. “You can’t toy with me, Alexa. Not when I’ve wanted you for so long. Not when I never wanted to let you go in the first place. This . . . this can just be fucking. But don’t you dare say anything you don’t mean.”

She stroked his hair. “Truth?”

He gave a tight nod and prepared for the worst, even as he hoped for a shot.

“Truth is, I don’t know what this means. Yet. I am so messed up right now. I’m not even going to hide that. But . . .” She tilted her head, and her expression was filled with something Mav didn’t want to name, but it sure as hell looked like affection. “But I know I want this. I want you, Maverick. Right now. And wanting you feels like one of the smartest decisions I’ve made in forever. Everything else be damned.” Her voice was shaky and breathy and her words were so full of dangerous, dangerous hope that Maverick didn’t dare move.

His muscles nearly shook with the force of his restraint, because his body was literally screaming at him. Screaming at him to just let go. “Fuck, Alexa.”

“I don’t want to hurt you. I never wanted to hurt you. But I want you. I want you inside me right now more than I want my next breath.”

Even though his mind was rolling out a list of all the reasons why this was a no good what the fuck are you thinking very bad idea, Maverick’s body grabbed the reins. On a groan, he went in for a kiss, rougher than he intended, but the moan she unleashed when his mouth crashed down on hers told him she didn’t mind. They fumbled with clothes. Her boxers. His jeans. Until they were both naked and pressed tight, all hot skin on skin, and his cock ground against her soft folds until she was mewling and writhing and silently pleading with the rough, desperate grip of her hands on his shoulders, his back, his ass.

A big part of Maverick wanted to pick Alexa up and carry her to his bed—where his heart said she belonged—but this wasn’t about that. At least not yet, and he wasn’t giving either of them any more time to think than he already had.

He needed her too damn bad. Just this once. In case that’s all it was.

Sonja's Review

Sweet Ruin blew me away with all the new wonders it introduced to us in the Immortals After Dark World and and to say that I was excited to read Wicked Abyss would be an understatement. I was a bit obsessive for awhile there and while it didn't blew me away like Sweet Ruin, it was still wonderful to read. Wicked Abyss was downright amazing and I loved every minute of it!

Every time I think Ms. Cole can't possibly write another bada*s heroine to top the last one, she proves me wrong and she did that with Calliope too! This fairy princess might not have actual fighting experience but her mind is brilliant and devious and as deadly as an weapon she could wield. It was my favorite part of her - I just loved her cunning intellect, but there was more that I loved about her than that. I loved Calliope's strength, confidence, determination and her fierceness. Calliope is without a doubt one of my new favorite females in this series, but I know she will definitely not be the last, not with this author!

There could not have been a more appropriate title for this book than Wicked Abyss because man, oh man, is Abyssian wicked! He might be cursed with his demon form, but that doesn't mean he's any less sexy and truth be told I love him way more in that form than in his human one. Of course I loved Abyssian for more than just that though. Yes, he can be a grouchy, cringe-worthy jerk at times, but he can be playful and fun too. He has a soft, vulnerable side as well that he completely ripped my heart out with. Abyssian's so sweet and loyal and he would do absolutely anything for his mate. I couldn't not love him even if I tried - he's just wonderful and I know he'll steal your heart like he stole mine!

Wicked Abyss felt like it had a little bit of everything and it reminded me of so much. There were times when I thought of Hades and Persephone and of Cinderella, but mostly it was like Ms. Cole's own tale of Beauty and the Beast although I have to say she did it better because everything I ever wanted in that story, she made happen. But don't get me wrong, it was still very much the Immortals After Dark World. You had the steamy, sexy times, the love/hate relationship, the bada*sery, the humor, the romance, and the love and heart that this whole series breathes.

I started reading Wicked Abyss and I never wanted to stop - I only did when I absolutely had to. I wanted to get to the end, but at the same time I didn't and I felt that way when I actually finished it. I was so happy to see the conclusion, but I'm also sad because I can't be in the Immortals After Dark World again until the next book. I just love this book and series so much - they're both incredible and I'll never, not ever get enough!

Wicked Abyss can be read as a standalone, although I would recommending reading them in order. It's told mostly from Abyssian and Calliope's POV, they do get their happy ending, and oh, I can't wait to see what happens next!

EXCERPT:
CHAPTER ONE

Sylvan Castle

Eleven years ago . . .

As King Saetth leisurely wiped blood off his sword, Lila choked down her fury.

Seated upon his throne, he took his time, keeping everyone in suspense. With two executions complete, only one trial remained.

Mine.

Would she follow her parents’ fates?

Through one of the throne room’s towering windows, a ray of sunlight beamed over the king. His blond locks and his ornate crown—a wreath of gilded evergreen branches—seemed to glow. Even the sun wanted to touch him.

For all of her thirteen years, Lila had been just as enamored of him.

Off to the side, whispers sounded from her backstabbing royal cousins.

“Saetth’s about to behead his child fiancée!”

“The foulmouthed brat got used to being the king’s favorite.”

“Why isn’t the little bitch crying?”

“Or begging for her cursed life?”

Crying or begging? As if. Lila faced Saetth with her chin up and shoulders back, her pampered appearance belying her fortitude.

The perils of this fey court had honed her mettle. Learning from the mistakes of others had sharpened her acumen.

Yet nothing could stifle her unfeylike temper; after all, she’d been betrothed to Saetth since her birth, raised to become the queen of this realm. Rumor even held that she was a princess reincarnated.

Fate wanted her to be a queen.

Lila had worn a purple silk gown for this occasion; the color was royal—and defiant.

As the castle’s clock tower tolled, Saetth finished cleaning the weapon he always carried, the Ancestors’ Sword, the unifying symbol of their royal line. He raised the blade to the sunlight, eyeing the edge with his piercing blue gaze.

Her earliest memories were of sighing over his handsome face, imagining him as her husband and her dollies as the subjects they protected.

Yet now her king suspected Lila of treason?

How could her coldhearted parents have plotted against such a powerful ruler? They’d foolishly trusted an informer, leaving their only child’s life hanging in the balance.

Secrecy equals survival in this court.

They’d never cared about her—never pretended she was more than a valuable bargaining chip—which was one of the reasons she’d bonded so strongly with Saetth, who’d at least shown her attention. . . .

He sheathed his sword. Peering down at her, he began her trial with one question: “Why shouldn’t I believe you were involved in your parents’ plot to steal my crown?”

Lila pinned his gaze with her own uncanny one. Her defense consisted of eight words: “Because it still sits upon your godsdamned head.”

Stunned silence reigned.

Saetth’s shock turned to amusement. “And that is why you remain my betrothed, Calliope of Sylvan, the queen of my heart.” He laughed, his gaze seemingly warm. “If there was ever a girl born to rule, you are she, cousin. But I too was born to rule, and I’ve kept this crown for millennia because I allow no threats to fester around me.” His smile disappeared as if it’d never been. “I hereby exile you from our woodland kingdom.”

Leave her beloved Sylvan? Lila would almost rather die. The forests were what separated the Sylvans from the other fey. The splendor of those great trees was equaled only by the shining, meticulous order of life at court.

Just two weeks ago, at a ball in her honor, the lights from a thousand candles had reflected in her jewels as Saetth had led her out to dance. The next day she’d run through the woods alongside bounding deer.

Separating her from this place would be like draining her veins of blood. “To where?”

“The mortal realm.”

Gasps sounded; some of her cousins tittered. He might as well have sentenced her to hell.

She would go from proudly displaying everything that made her a Lorean to hiding her very species from prying mortal eyes. From the order the fey so cherished to human chaos.

Saetth said, “We’ll see if my hothouse rose can survive among primitive humans.”

Lips drawn back from her teeth, she said, “Careful, cousin, this hothouse rose intends to flourish and grow sharp thorns.”

More gasps.

Saetth’s eyes flickered with excitement. He leaned down and said, “I am counting on it.”

“And if the fey-slayer finds me, what then?” Rune Darklight, a homicidal archer and one of the Møriør, was murdering the Sylvan line of succession. Lila was one of only fourteen left.

This castle had a barrier to keep Møriør out; she’d be vulnerable anywhere else.

“Test your new thorns against him,” Saetth said. As if any of the monstrous Møriør could be fought! “If you’re truly the queen I deserve, you’ll figure out something, I’m sure.”

“How long until I can return?” Six months? A year?

“Should there come a time when you can prove your loyalty to me through great personal sacrifice, I will provide you the chance to take your rightful place by my side. Until then, wait for my word. . . .”

RELEASE DAY BLITZ REVIEW: Revelry by Kandi Steiner

Title: Revelry
Author: Kandi Steiner
Release Date: April 20, 2017
Add to TBR

From the bestselling author of Weightless and A Love Letter to Whiskey

Wren Ballard is trying to find herself.

She never expected to be divorced at twenty-seven, but now that the court date has passed, it’s official. The paperwork is final. Her feelings on it aren’t.

Spending the summer in a small mountain town outside Seattle is exactly what she needs. The peaceful scenery is a given, the cat with the croaky meow is a surprise, but the real kicker? A broody neighbor with nice arms, a strange reputation, and absolutely no interest in her.

Anderson Black is perfectly fine being lost.

He doesn’t care about the town’s new resident — he’s too busy fighting his own demons. But when he’s brought face to face with Wren, he can see her still-fresh wounds from a mile away. What he doesn’t see coming is his need to know who put them there — or his desperation to mend them.

Sometimes getting lost is the way to find yourself. Sometimes healing only adds a new scar. And sometimes the last place you expected to be is exactly where you find home.

I had just grabbed my oversized hat and slipped my sunglasses on when I spotted Anderson walking up the drive with a large trash bag slung over his shoulder. He wore a simple, black V-neck and distressed jeans, an outfit way too dark and hot for the heat. A light sheen of sweat gathered on his neck as he made his way toward my cabin, his eyes hidden behind all-black sunglasses.

"Change your mind?" I asked, not even fighting the grin on my face as I walked outside and leaned against the banister.

Anderson squinted up at me, his boots heavy as they hit each stair. "About?"

"Tubing?" I asked. That was why he was here, right?

"Oh." He shook his head as he hit the top stair, shrugging the bag off his shoulders to hold it by the neck in one fist. "No, I have somewhere to be..." His voice trailed off, and even through the tinted shades of his glasses I felt his eyes on my chest. I'd strapped on my favorite boho print bathing suit and paired it with a dainty gold chain that wrapped around my neck once before dipping between my chest and crossing over my ribs.

He sniffed, holding the bag out toward me. "I just came to drop these off. My clothes. Well, the ones that could probably use a little TLC."

My eyes lit up and I reached for the bag, but Anderson snatched it back, brows shooting up into his forehead.

"No frills, Wren."

I threw my hands up in surrender. "I promise."

He smirked, just slightly, and handed the bag over, tucking his hands in his front pockets.

"Are you sure you don't want to come?" I asked, peering into the bag at my project before setting it just inside the cabin and locking the door behind me.

"I can't," he said, lips pressed together. He was tense, the muscles on his forearms tight as he glanced around at pretty much everything but me.

I opened my mouth to ask why but was cut off by the sound of a truck flying into my drive, tires sliding against the gravel.

Tucker was in the driver's seat with Davie in the passenger. Sarah and Yvette sat in the back, laughing with their hands up as the truck skidded to a stop. They were both sprawled out on a pile of tubes, wearing bathing suit tops and tiny shorts.

All of their faces froze when they saw Anderson.

"Hey, you ready, Wren?" Tucker asked warily, his eyes moving from where Anderson stood in front of me, to me, and back again.

"Yeah, one sec!" I called back.

I turned to Anderson, but his eyes were hard on Tucker, jaw ticking under his skin. When he faced me once more, an anchor fell from my throat into the pit of my stomach, immobilizing me completely. Because even though I 'd tried to convince myself I was wrong, I recognized the look in his eyes.

Possession.

And when his nose flared and he took one big step toward me, our chests brushing, his hand reaching out to rest almost imperceptibly on my hip, the anchor in my stomach exploded into flames, burning a desire so fierce I inhaled a toxic breath and didn't let it go.

"Be careful, okay?" His eyes locked on mine just before he leaned in and swiftly kissed my cheek.

He turned on his heel and jogged down the stairs and past the truck. Sarah called his name, but he didn't acknowledge her, just kept his gaze forward until he'd disappeared from view.

And then everyone looked at me.

Sonja's Review

Revelry is the second book of Kandi Steiner's that I have had to give six stars and when I say I had to, I mean it. I thought about giving it five stars, but I just couldn't do it because it wasn't a high enough rating for this book. Revelry was absolutely outstanding and I wholeheartedly loved it!

There were a few times when Wren frustrated me a little, but only because she didn't see her strength or how wonderful she is. She's warm and bright and fun. She's brave and determined and nothing and no one is going to stop her from going after her dreams and doing what makes her happy. Wren is so sweet and genuine and lovely that I just loved her.

But oh my gosh, it was Anderson who completely stole the show. Oh, I just fell hard for that man! Sure, he's a gruff, grumpy guy at first, but he has that whole brooding-tortured-soul thing about him that it is impossible for me to resist. He has more than that side to him though, Anderson can be fun and playful too. He's also so sweet and kind and just a stand-up guy. Anderson one hundred percent stole my heart and I couldn't love him any more if I tried!

Revelry was full of everything. It made my heart ache, made me cover my mouth and gasp, made my eyes sting with both sad and happy tears, and it made me laugh and smile. It was heartbreaking and beautiful and full of so much wisdom and depth and lessons. Revelry was magical, heartwarming, incredible, and deserving of every star that I gave it!

Revelry is a standalone, it's told from Anderson and Wren's POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after - the ending was just perfect!

Kandi Steiner is a bestselling author and whiskey connoisseur living in Tampa, FL. Best known for writing “emotional rollercoaster” stories, she loves bringing flawed characters to life and writing about real, raw romance — in all its forms. No two Kandi Steiner books are the same, and if you’re a lover of angsty, emotional, and inspirational reads, she’s your gal.

An alumna of the University of Central Florida, Kandi graduated with a double major in Creative Writing and Advertising/PR with a minor in Women’s Studies. She started writing back in the 4th grade after reading the first Harry Potter installment. In 6th grade, she wrote and edited her own newspaper and distributed to her classmates. Eventually, the principal caught on and the newspaper was quickly halted, though Kandi tried fighting for her “freedom of press.” She took particular interest in writing romance after college, as she has always been a die hard hopeless romantic, and likes to highlight all the challenges of love as well as the triumphs.

When Kandi isn’t writing, you can find her reading books of all kinds, talking with her extremely vocal cat, and spending time with her friends and family. She enjoys live music, traveling, anything heavy in carbs, beach days, movie marathons, craft beer and sweet wine — not necessarily in that order.
