BLOG TOUR REVIEW: Just One Touch by Maya Banks

A suspenseful and sizzling story of a young woman who
escapes a terrifying past… into a more uncertain future.

JUST ONE TOUCH
Slow Burn #5
Maya Banks
Released May 9, 2017
Avon Books

Multiple #1 New York Times bestselling author Maya Banks continues her Slow Burn series with a suspenseful and sizzling story of a young woman who escapes a terrifying past… into a more uncertain future.

Raised in a strict religious cult since she was a young girl, Jenna has no connection to the outside world beyond vague flashes of memory that seem to be from another life. Memories she clings to when the cult leaders discover her extraordinary ability to heal-and punish her. Years held captive and forced to do the cult's bidding have turned Jenna into a meek, timid woman…or so they think. In truth, she is merely biding her time, waiting for the perfect moment to escape.

When a terrified young woman tries to steal the SUV of Devereaux Security's toughest recruit, Isaac's anger quickly turns into a strange sort of protectiveness for the beautiful, bruised stranger. But when they are caught in a firestorm of bullets and Isaac is hit, he's sure the end is near, until Jenna touches him and closes his wounds. As he tries to bring Jenna to safety, she refuses to tell him what danger haunts her or how she healed him, but Isaac vows to do whatever it takes to gain her trust…and her heart. Because with just one touch, Isaac knows he wants Jenna to be his--forever.

“She’s mine, Dane. No one else’s. I told you I’d ask if and when I need backup or help. Until then, it’s better that none of you are associated with her or are seen anywhere near her. She risked everything to save me when I could have been no better than the assholes trying to get to her. She sealed her fate in that moment because I’m not going anywhere. I need time to hear her side and I have a feeling she’s not just going to volunteer any information about herself, so I’m also going to need time to gain her trust and I’m going to prove to her that she can trust me. I appreciate the offer. More than you know. But she isn’t a DSS client or assignment. She’s mine, and I’ll protect her with my life.”

Maya Banks has been on my ATR (Authors To Read) list for quite awhile, so when the opportunity presented itself to read one of her books, I dove in wholeheartedly. And from the moment I started reading Just One Touch - I was captivated. It lured me in, kept me flipping the pages, and there was never, not once, a dull moment. Just One Touch was positively amazing and I loved it!

Jenna might have her vulnerable, weak moments, but make no mistake - this woman is strong and she only continues to grow stronger throughout the book. Jenna has an incredibly sweet and giving heart and nature, but she can be downright fierce, brave, and rebellious when she needs to be. Although it's tough to say which part of her I loved most, I think it has to be that sweet side. Jenna truly has a heart of gold and I admired and respected her so much.

It wasn't hard to fall for Isaac - he is without a doubt my kind of hero! He's protective, possessive, and Jenna is his whole world. There is no way you would question his feelings for her and he is completely and utterly devoted to Jenna. Issac would do absolutely anything for her and do anything he had to ensure her safety and peace of mind. Issac is sweet, thoughtful, passionate, and a total alpha. He is wonderful and I know that you'll fall for him just as easily as I did!

If there's one thing about Just One Touch that Ms. Banks did the best, it's the suspense. Every moment had me on the edge of my seat wondering what was going to happen next and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. There's more to it than just though, there's life and heart and the certainty that you know exactly who the characters are and why they make the decisions they do. Just One Touch just had this grand, fantastical, I-jump-you-jump feel to it. It was magical and beautiful and I need to read the previous books in this series pronto!

Just One Touch is the fifth book in the Slow Burn series, but you can read it as a standalone. It's told from Issac and Jenna's POV, they got their happily-ever-after and I can't wait to see which couple in the series gets their own happy ending next!

Sonja's Review

I wasn't really happy when I learned at the end of This Isn't Fair, Baby who the heroine in This is the End, Baby was going to be. I love the hero, I'm just not crazy about his other half. I've been with this series since the very beginning though, so I knew I was going to read it no matter what. I was a little nervous before starting it, so once I got This is the End, Baby, I just started reading it instead of waiting. And I'm glad that I did because I loved it!

I don't want to give away any spoilers, so I'm not going to go into much detail. I will say that while I had reservations about the heroine, I actually truly did like her in this book, she's still crazy, but I could it handle it this time. This is the End, Baby is messed up, twisted, and darkly sexy. It was the best, perfect way to end this amazing series and while I'm sad to see it go, I cannot wait to read what else Ms. Webster has in store for us!

Sonja's Review

I fell in love with the town of Marfa and I was so excited when Ms. Force decided to return to it with Garrett and Lauren's story this time. It was wonderful seeing everyone and being in that world again! I absolutely loved Sex God, it was utterly excellent!

I really liked Lauren in Sex Machine and I loved her in her own book. She's sweet and kind, she's beautiful on inside just as much on the outside, and she's got a warm heart. Lauren is strong and sassy, she has her vulnerable moments and insecurities, but I loved seeing that because it made her seem more real. Lauren is just a total gem and I know you'll love her too!

I think it's highly possible that I love Garrett more than Blake - not that Blake's not great - because he is, but Garrett just stole my heart. He's smart and responsible, he's so sweet and giving, and kind and caring. He's very protective of Lauren and he never lets her get away with doubting herself. Garrett would do anything for Lauren and it was so easy to see how in love with and devoted to her he is. Garrett is just so sweet and perfect, I couldn't have stopped loving him if I tried!

Sex God was without a doubt steamy and sexy and while I loved that, I loved Lauren and Garrett's relationship even more. They've been best friends forever and it's not hard at all to see that. They are so in tune with each other and just have this lovely energy around them that was fun and entertaining to experience. I completely fell in love with Garrett and Lauren's story, it was beautiful and heartwarming and I'm going to miss them - they're the best!

Sex God can be read as a standalone, but I would definitely check out Sex Machine if you haven't already. It's told from Garrett and Lauren's POV, they get they happily-ever-after, and I sincerely hope that more of these awesome Marfa characters talk Ms. Force into writing their stories as well because you can be assured that I will be picking them up if they do and she does!

EXCERPT:

“That’s a long drive.” A hint of reproach toughened his tone, but he didn’t chastise her about the tires.
“Not too bad, but it’s nice to be out of the car.” In more ways than one. She’d changed into her blues at the last rest stop. Prior to that, she’d been in jeans. She kind of missed those jeans right now. It would be nice to just hang out with him, two random strangers…
“I bet.”
“How about you?”
“On my way back from leave.” He didn’t sound like he wanted to talk about work, assignments, or deployments. “Tell you what, let’s table the work convo.”
Kat chuckled. A man after her own heart. “Kind of hard to ignore the work aspect, considering I’m wearing a uniform.”
“I’m really good at pretend.” The promise of something wicked danced in his eyes.
“Are you, now?”
“Hell, yeah, and I’ve decided we’re going to have a good time over lunch. We’ll laugh, we’ll talk, and we’ll get to know each other.” God help her, he was temptation on a stick. Why couldn’t she have met him back at Quantico?
Where was the harm? I’m on my way to a secret assignment to investigate a classified force recon team. I can see lots of harm. Still, they were only having lunch.
Lunch and pie. “So you have a plan?”
“Absolutely. The only question I have is, are you onboard?”
Their food arrived, and the burgers smelled mouthwateringly good. Kat’s stomach rumbled audibly. With food in front of her, she could pour all her pent-up interest into eating.
Licking her lips, she unfolded a napkin then met his gaze. “I’m totally onboard,” she told him, especially since she could use a break before she immersed herself in Bravo Team culture. “But only for the burger.”
“Hard to compete with Martha’s burgers,” he agreed as he pulled his burger to him. The first bite she took was so good, she damn near groaned. The meat was hot, the onions crisp, and the tomato sweet. Damn. Then her gaze locked with Jax’s as he raised his burger. She found herself mirroring the action, and they both bit into their burgers at the same time and sighed. It went beyond intimacy, the way his eyes seemed to caress her and the warmth invaded her veins.
Trying to laugh off the crazy sensation, she lowered her burger. “Okay, that was a little more food porn than I’m used to with my meals.”
“We need to feed you more, then.”
“Sounds—meaty.” And I sound like an idiot. She grimaced. “I’m terrible at the flirting thing.”
“No, you’re not. Flirting is just play, and I think you’re playing fine. Besides, porn isn’t playing. Porn is good.” To illustrate his point, he took another big bite and lifted his eyebrows as though to invite her to join him. Lifting her burger, she repeated their earlier move and held his gaze as they took another bite. It was so ridiculous and fun in the same breath, she almost laughed.

SONJA'S REVIEW

I've been in the mood to read paranormal lately and I've read Ms. Long once before and really liked her book, so when I saw When Danger Bites, I thought, Why not? I'm so glad that I decided to read it because it was excellent! I enjoyed it a lot and I just cannot to read more about these Bravo Team Wolves!

Jax is very much the protective alpha male and while sometimes he made me face palm and shake my head, I did love that side of him. Jax is strong, sexy, and intense. He's a good leader, he cares about everyone on his team and he'll do whatever he has to protect them. He definitely has a serious, calm, solid head-on-his-shoulders side, but he can be playful, fun, and silly too. Jax is a great hero and I completely loved him!

The whole team loved with Kat and so did I - she is seriously one bada*s Marine! She's tough-as-nails and has a core of steel. She's determined, she's a fighter and she never gives up. Kat gives one hundred and ten percent always and she pushes herself to prove that she can fit in with the team. She's not cold or hard though, she can joke and tease and play along with the rest of the guys. Kat really is the total package, she's an amazing heroine and I positively loved her!

When Danger Bites not only made me fall for Jax and Kat, it really made me fall for the whole Bravo Team. There was such camaraderie and fun and loyalty with all of the guys, you truly felt their team soul. It was wonderful to see and they made me wish I was on their team. The whole book was an exciting, entertaining, action-packed ride that I loved and can't wait to be a part of again!

When Danger Bites is the first book in the Bravo Team WOLF series, it's told from Jax and Kat's POV, and they get their happily-ever-after.
