Love was stupid.
A fake. A farce
Love was broken.
Women everywhere were eating up my advice and fighting back against fake love. My book started a relationship revolution. And I stood by my story.
Until I met Charlie Bates.

Maybe I’m the one who’s love broken.

Sonja's Review

Whoo! Was that ever a ride or what?! I love reading Ms. Hollyfield, so I’m always up for one of her books and I always know to expect a good one with funny moments, but those expectations never could have prepared me for Love Broken. It was so raw and full of emotion — it was just wow. It was an amazing read and while it wasn’t easy to love all the time, I did love it.

And just like the story, Katie wasn’t easy to love all the time either. I loved her when I first met her, she was so real and just seemed so normal in the best way. Katie’s down-to-earth, and she likes simple things, she’s not showy or into fancy schmancy stuff. Katie is far from perfect though, she has insecurities, doubts, and fears. She’s not strong every moment and there were times when I wasn’t sure if liked her anymore let alone loved her. I never considered giving up on her though and I’m glad I didn’t because though it took awhile, Katie figured things out and I understood her better after that and I do still love her for all of her parts whether they’re broken or not.

The one aspect of this book that wasn’t at all hard to love was Chase. He’s fun and sweet and just the best guy ever. He’s incredibly patient, kind, and understanding. Chase never stops fighting for Katie and he never gives up on her. He’s a heart melting, swoon worthy, wonderful hero and I know he’ll steal your heart like he did mine.

Love Broken drove me a little crazy, it broke my heart and made it ache. It brought tears to my eyes and was difficult to read sometimes. It’s not all heartbreak and gloom though. It made me laugh and smile and melt a lot too. It was beautiful and deep and full of so much and so many kinds of love. Love Broken truly is one of Ms. Hollyfield’s best books yet!

Love Broken is a standalone, it’s told only from Katie’s POV, and she and Chase do get their hard-fought for happily-ever-after.

Excerpt:

“Let me see your wings.”
A smear of pink brightened his cheeks. “Memitim don’t have wings,” he said, which sounded like a convenient excuse. “Not real ones. But I have something similar.”
Before she could ask what he meant, a pair of misty, smoke-colored wings punched into the air behind him. “These allow me to move invisibly when I need to.”
Her mouth went dry with shock. He really was an angel. She was standing in the presence of a being she hadn’t thought was real. Heck, she had always been *this close* to being an atheist, despite the existence of demons which, some would say, proved the existence of God.
 “Can I touch them?”
“You can try.” He shifted, allowing her access. “But your hand will pass through them. They’re made of shadow.”
She reached out, expecting to feel empty air, but instead her fingers felt...something. Something electric. He went taut as she stroked the apex of one of his ghostly wings.
“I can sense your touch,” he breathed. “You can...feel them?”
“Yes,” she said, in absolute awe that she was in contact with a real, Heavenly being.
Well, an earthbound Heavenly being, anyway. “They feel like warm water with an electrical current running through it.”
Curious, she concentrated on absorbing some of his energy through her palm, but nothing happened. She dropped her gaze to his perfect ass. Maybe if she touched a more solid part of his body...
“I don’t understand.” He stepped away, his expression one of genuine confusion.
“No one has ever been able to touch them. This is the first time I’ve gotten any sensation from them at all.”
Huh. Weird. “What did it feel like?”
“Like...a caress. Like they were real wings and they were connected to my—” He broke off and gave her a cheeky grin. “Never mind.”
Too late. Her gaze slid downward, and she drew an appreciative breath at the impressive bulge behind the fly of his jeans.

Sonja's Review

I've loved all of the Demonica novellas I’ve read, so I couldn’t wait to read Hawkyn! It was even better than I was expecting and I absolutely loved it. Hawkyn was beyond excellent and I can’t wait for whatever Demonica book comes next!

It wasn’t hard at all to love Aurora — in fact, I loved her from the very beginning. She’s strong, spunky, and full of life and energy. Aurora is kind, level-headed, and understanding. She’s just sweet and wonderful and I loved getting to know her.

Hawkyn isn’t hard to love either. He is and takes his job seriously, but he’s also a bit of a rebel and he definitely has his own mind. He is determined, driven, and he wants to man's a difference. Hawkyn has such a good heart and he’s such a good man — it’s impossible not to fall for him.

I had the best time reading Hawkyn. It was so interesting and fascinating to visit this particular Demonica World. I feel like I learn new things every time I pick up one of them and it always makes for an exciting adventure and leaves me eager to discover more from both the old and future books. Hawkyn was fantastic and full of passion, action, and so much more — I just loved, loved, loved it!

Hawkyn can be read as a standalone, it’s told from multiple points of view, and Hawkyn and Aurora do get their happily ever after.

BLOG TOUR REVIEW: Candy Coated Chaos by Charity B.

Candy Coated Chaos
Sweet Treats Trilogy
by Charity B.
Publication Date: February 15, 2018
Genres: Adult, Contemporary, Romance

AVAILABLE NOW!

SYNOPSIS:

Alexander
Being with Tavin is like eating those candies that start out sweet and then turn so sour, your eyes water. When she’s happy, her radiance is stunning, but her glow is dimmed by her dark secrets. I knew from the moment I laid eyes on her, sucking on that lollipop, that there was something unique about her. I was right in more ways than one, and while I don’t know the extent of suffering that her life entails, I’ll do whatever I need to, to convince her she can trust me. I just need to hang on to her long enough to do that.

Tavin
When he wraps his arms around me, and his warmth makes me feel safe, it’s easy to pretend that this is real. I knew going out with him was a bad idea, I just never imagined it would go this far. It was only supposed to be one night. One night to feel like a normal girl. I didn’t plan for this and now, every day that passes puts us deeper in danger. All I can do is make the most of every moment with him, so when the time comes for this to end, then at least we’ll be left with beautiful memories.

Trigger Warning: This novel contains drug use, explicit sexual content, violence, and sensitive subject matter which may be triggering for some readers.

EXCERPT

He hovers over me, his blond hair soft beneath my fingers as I brush it away from his face. His strong and gorgeous face. I touch his cheeks so softly I wonder if he feels it.
“Can’t we just enjoy this? The right now? I don’t want to think about anything past tonight.”
His eyebrows narrow as his jaw ticks and it’s like he thinks if he looks into my eyes deep enough, he’ll get the answers he thinks he wants.
“That’s what I’m talking about. Whenever you say stuff like that it feels like every moment with you could be my last. You have this way about you, as if you see something the rest of the world can’t. Sometimes you feel almost… magical.” He presses his forehead against mine and laces our fingers together before pulling our hands above our heads. “Please don’t disappear,” he whispers against my lips.

Sonja's Review

The cover for Candy Coated Chaos immediately grabbed my attention, but it wasn’t until I saw a post about it in one of my social media groups that I decided to give it a shot. I’m glad that I saw that post and that I took a chance on it because I really liked Candy Coated Chaos. It was unconventional and a little weird at times, but I enjoyed that — it was an excellent read.

Much like the story is unconventional and a bit weird, so is Tavin — she’s definitely a one-of-a-kind heroine. She has her somewhat frustrating moments, but I could never really be angry at her for long or blame her for that. I don’t want to spoil anything about Tavin though, so I will just say give her a chance because she deserves it and while she certainly has flaws, she’s a little bit of wonderful.

It wasn’t hard at all to love Alexander — he’s such a great hero. He has his fair share of not-so-good times too, but he has a good, big heart and he truly cares about Tavin. He’s sweet, thoughtful, protective, supportive and he wants what’s best for her. Alex is fun and serious and warm — he’s just awesome.

Candy Coated Chaos was unique and frustrating and full of mystery and secrets that had my mind going around in circles. It kept me on my toes and thinking and guessing and wondering what we were going to find out next. It made my heart ache and pound and made me smile and laugh a lot too. I did enjoy reading this book and I will without a doubt read the whole trilogy!

Candy Coated Chaos is the first book in the Sweet Treats trilogy, it’s told from Alex and Tavin’s POV, and I can’t wait to read book two!

RELEASE REVIEW: Tempest by Beverly Jenkins

Title: Tempest
Author: Beverly Jenkins
Series: Old West, #3
Publisher: Avon
Publication Date: January 30, 2018

Synopsis:
What kind of mail-order bride greets her intended with a bullet instead of a kiss? One like Regan Carmichael—an independent spirit equally at home in denims and dresses. Shooting Dr. Colton Lee in the shoulder is an honest error, but soon Regan wonders if her entire plan to marry a man she’s never met is a mistake. Colton, who buried his heart along with his first wife, insists he only wants someone to care for his daughter. Yet Regan is drawn to the unmistakable desire in his gaze.

Regan’s far from the docile bride Colton was expecting. Still, few women would brave the wilds of Wyoming Territory for an uncertain future with a widower and his child. The thought of having a bold, forthright woman like Regan in his life—and in his arms—begins to inspire a new dream. And despite his family’s disapproval and an unseen enemy, he’ll risk all to make this match a real union of body and soul.

Sonja’s Review

I discovered Beverly Jenkins when I watched the documentary, Love Between the Covers, and not only did I like her as a person, but I was interested in her books as they sounded good and because of something she said. Ms. Jenkins pointed out that a lot of people in the romance genre read about aliens of different colors and all other manner of beings, so why should they have any trouble reading one of her books? I thought she was absolutely right and I decided that the next chance I got, I would read one of her books. That chance came along with Tempest and I’m so glad that it did. I fell in love with Tempest in the first few pages and my love for it only grew — it was a spectacular read!

Doc Lee is one fine hero and an amazing man. He’s dependable and generous and giving. You can always count on him to have your back and help someone out of the goodness of his heart. And he truly has a good heart. Colt is kind and true and it was just impossible not to fall in love with him.

I can say the same with Regan although I have to admit I loved her more than the good doctor, but trust me, you’ll understand why when you meet her. Regan is strong and fierce and independent. She can take care of herself, she’s a boss without question, and she has a mind of her own. Regan is also kind and thoughtful and completely down to earth. She is an incredible woman and I wholeheartedly loved her!

Tempest started out with a bang and kept my interest all the way through until the very end. It made me laugh, made my heart ache at times and had injustices that angered me along with the characters. Tempest was full of passion, mystery, and sweet, heart melting moments. It was such a joy to read and I can’t wait to read more from Ms. Jenkins!

Tempest is the third book in the Old West series, but it can be can be read as a standalone. It’s told from Colton and Regan’s POV and they do get their happy ending.

Sonja’s Review

I have fallen in love with the Heartbreaker Bay World, especially the characters! I don’t care which pair it is, just give me their story and I’m happy. And I absolutely loved Joe and Kylie’s tale — About That Kiss was fantastically excellent!

I was looking forward to Joe getting his book ever since Chasing Christmas Eve and he did not disappoint. Sure, he has stubborn, eye rolling, head shaking moments, but Joe truly is a great guy. He would do anything to protect someone he cares about and he’d do whatever they needed him to do. Joe is hard, but he’s definitely a softy with his people. He’s a wonderful hero and I loved him.

And it was impossible not to love Kylie. She’s talented, smart, stubborn, and she doesn’t let Joe get away with anything. She’s tough and sweet and true. Kylie is a fighter through and through and she always challenges Joe and keeps him on his toes. Kylie is just an amazing woman with such a good heart — I just loved her to pieces!

About That Kiss made my heart ache, it amused me, and put a smile on my face. It was full of passion, grit, and strong characters. It made me laugh and melt — I really enjoyed reading this book. It was beyond a worthy addition to this marvelous series and I absolutely CANNOT wait to read the next book!

About That Kiss can be read as a standalone, it’s told from Joe and Kylie’s POV, and they do get their happily-ever-after.

Sonja’s Review

I first discover Rachel Gibson from reading her Writer Friends series and because I enjoyed it so much, I decided to pick up her Chinooks Hockey Team novels as well. And I wholeheartedly fell in love with those hockey players and their lovely women. Even today, the Chinooks Hockey Team series is my number one favorite sports series. When I figured that Any Man of Mine was the last in the series, you can imagine how sad I was that it was ending. I’ve wished for years that Ms. Gibson would write another one and I would even check some websites every once in a while to see if there was a new book without any luck. And then I saw the cover for The Art of Running in Heels with "Chinooks" on the cover on my social media feed and I couldn’t contain my excitement! I was unbelievably happy and I couldn’t wait to read it, I didn’t even bother reading the synopsis, but when my friend told me it was about John “The Wall” Kowalsky’s daughter, that only ramped up my eagerness to read The Art of Running in Heels. And now that I’ve read it, I can say that it was even better than I expected and I wholeheartedly loved it too!

It’s hard for me to go straight into talking about Lexie and Sean like I would usually do, so I’m going to be impulsive and forget my norms which is perfectly appropriate when it comes to The Art of Running in Heels, but I won’t say more than that because I don’t want to spoil anything.

The Art of Running in Heels had me laughing from the very beginning and all throughout the book. It was downright hilarious with so many laugh-out-loud moments. It was extremely entertaining, fun, and playful, although it did have its heartache-y and make-your-eyes-start-to-tear-up times. It was wonderful to see the original characters and to meet all the new ones. I loved Lexie and Sean, they were crazy and awesome and there’s not a thing I would change about them.

I can’t tell you how great it was to visit the Chinooks Hockey Team world again. It was an amazing, heartwarming read and I loved and enjoyed it immensely. I’m hoping that we’ll get even more Chinooks books now and I can’t wait to read them if we do!

The Art of Running in Heels is a standalone and if you haven’t yet, I highly recommend reading the rest of the series whenever you can. It’s told mostly from Lexie and Sean’s POV and they have a heart melting happily-ever-after that made me smile and put a huge grin on my face!
