Sonja's Review

Man, oh man, but this author slays me. Almost every book that I've read of Ms. Simone's has been a battle and put me out of my reading comfort zone and The Persuasion of Molly O'Flaherty was no different. In fact, I would say that it was the hardest to read and despite knowing I shouldn't expect an easy read and even being nervous about this series at first - that didn't stop me from letting my guard down after reading The Seduction of Molly O'Flaherty. I was so unprepared for this book, though, and I tried to remain unaffected for the most part, but that didn't stop all my sobbing without the tears, high-pitched ranting, or hysterical laughter in the end. I didn't particularly love or enjoy it, but even knowing what I know now, I would still have chosen to read it.

I didn't really like Molly in the Markham Hall series until the end and I was on the fence about her until The Seduction of Molly O'Flaherty allowed me to see a different side of her. I have actually come to like, admire, and respect her - I might not be too happy with her at the moment, but that doesn't change how I feel about her. Molly is a good, strong woman and if you feel the same way that I did about her at first, I would tell you to give her a chance because I'm sure she'll surprise you.

And speaking of surprises, Silas turned out to be huge surprise - both the good and the bad kind. I wasn't his biggest fan for a good chunk of the book, I was angry with him and I didn't know if I would be able to love or trust him again. But then he did something that completely made up for everything wrong that he did and he totally touched and melted my heart. Silas wasn't the best hero in the beginning, but he definitely became a worthy one along the way.

The Persuasion of Molly O'Flaherty took me on a roller coaster of ups and downs. Granted, for me, it was mostly downs with all the heartache, angst, betrayal, and secrets - but there were also beautiful, funny, and sweet moments too. I might not have loved this book, but I am very interested in seeing what happens next in The Wedding of Molly O'Flaherty and I very much hope that Molly and Silas get their HEA.

The Persuasion of Molly O'Flaherty is the first book, but I would definitely tell you to pick up The Seduction of Molly O'Flaherty too because it was awesome! This book is told from Silas and Molly's POV, there's no happily-ever-after yet, and it does end in a cliffhanger, but it didn't drive me crazy and I'm actually glad that I will have a break before I read the next book because this one just left me raw.
