Ms. Vayden is a new author to me and it was by pure luck that I found her and The One - thank you, S.E. Hall, for sharing it on Facebook on release day! I took one look at the cover and it intrigued me, then the synopsis slowly started pulling me, but what really got me hook, line, and sinker was when I read an excerpt when Kirby said "dinna" in his sexy Scottish brogue. I love it when my Scots talk like that and I just couldn't wait to read The One! And it so did NOT disappoint, it was utterly fabulous and I absolutely loved, loved, looooooved it!!
I loved Merry (Meredith might be her name, but she'll forever be Merry to me) and Kirby by themselves - they were awesome, but where I really loved them was when they were together. They have that playful, love/hate, banter type relationship that is one of my favorites. It was just so fresh, entertaining, and amusing watching their interactions.
On of the things that I loved the most about this book is that even after Merry and Kirby come together and more of the "love" than the "hate" of their love/hate relationship was coming out, they still maintained that easy banter that they've always had. And I really have to give Ms. Vayden mad props for still being able to pull that off because although I love that type of relationship and I love the buildup of tension and I want it to explode - I usually feel like when the inevitable happens, the couple loses that part of their hate/fighting fire and it almost makes me wish they never exploded because the bantering is my favorite part and I'm always a little sad when it stops. I didn't have to worry about that with The One though because Merry and Kirby stay their normal, teasing selves and I love them and Ms. Vayden for that!
The One was such a fun read for me! It made me do all kinds of laughing from giggling to the silent kind of laughter to covering my mouth with my hand in shock where you can't stop yourself from chuckling all the way to throwing my head back and laughing out loud. It was just a light, fun, sexy book and I can't tell you much I loved and enjoyed it!
The One is a standalone told only from Merry's POV, Merry and Kirby do get their happily-ever-after, and I can't wait to see what Ms. Vayden does next or to read her other books!
