Synopsis
I didn't know it was possible to fall so deeply into someone. To drown so strongly into their bottomless depths coming up for air was unfathomable. Until he comes along, with his sun-hot radiance, and eclipses the candle that is me. He's Lucifer before the fall, beautiful but the devil is in the way he looks at me. In the way his touch brands his name across every inch of my skin. His kisses possess my soul in the most sinful of ways.
Maddox Moore is my beginning and my end. Protector, friend, and lover—he's become my sole religion. At his side I become fearless, in his arms I burn to cinders, and in worshiping him I lose myself and discover the person he sees in me. But nothing is forever. Moments are ephemeral. No matter how much you want something life inevitably reminds you that you can't have it.
I'm damaged. He's broken. We're both covered in stains. Stains that make it impossible for us to hold onto each other.

Sonja's Review
As soon as I heard about Ms. Phal writing Stain, I immediately wanted to read it because I LOVED Flawed and I just knew that this would be a good book! And I was not wrong - it was an excellent dark read. I'm still not completely sure how I feel about it as whole, but I do know I loved it.
Maddox and Aylee are not your typical hero/heroine - they're darker and a little more messed up inside than most, but they're not bad people.
Well, Aylee might not have always seen herself as strong, but I have to disagree with her there. True she's not always strong and she doesn't always speak up when she should have, but she always keeps going and keeps surviving. She's brave and a little foolish sometimes and when she really needed to - she stood up for herself and didn't let the bad guy win. I liked all that about Aylee, but what made me love her was just the kind of person she is. She's sweet and kind and even though she has darkness inside, she also has a lot of lightness too that just makes impossible not to love her.
Maddox definitely has his not-so-good moments where he's a total jerk and ones that will leave you wide-eyed, taking a step back from him and questioning whether he's a hero that you can love, but all you have to do is see how he feels about Aylee to get over that. It's true that Max is one HOT hero, but what really made me fall for him was how he couldn't stop himself from caring about Aylee or feeling protective and possessive of her. He has a sweet, gentle side when it comes to her that will completely melt and steal your heart!
Stain is hard to read at times. It break your heart and rip it out and it will make you want to cry and sob. It made me angry and horrified sometimes and it definitely did a number on my heart, but it also made me smile and feel all nice and warm inside too. It's dark, but amazing and I really did love and enjoy it!
Stain is a standalone, it's told from Maddox and Aylee's POV, and they do get a HEA or at least happy-for-now ending.
