REVIEW: Sweet Ruin by Kresley Cole

Synopsis

An immortal assassin is caught between desire and duty in this sizzling new novel from Kresley Cole’s #1 New York Times bestselling Immortals After Dark series.

A foundling raised in a world of humans
Growing up, orphaned Josephine didn’t know who or what she was—just that she was “bad,” an outcast with strange powers. Protecting her baby brother Thaddeus became her entire life. The day he was taken away began Jo’s transition from angry girl…to would-be superhero…to enchanting villain.

A lethally sensual enforcer on a mission
Whether by bow or in bed, archer Rune the Baneblood never fails to eliminate his target. In his sights: the oldest living Valkyrie. Yet before he can strike, he encounters a vampiric creature whose beauty mesmerizes him. With one bite, she pierces him with aching pleasure, stealing his forbidden blood—and jeopardizing the secrets of his brethren.

A boundless passion that will lead to sweet ruin…
Could this exquisite female be a spy sent by the very Valkyrie he hunts? Rune knows he must not trust Josephine, yet he’s unable to turn her away. When Jo betrays the identity of the one man she will die to protect, she and Rune become locked in a treacherous battle of wills that pits ultimate loyalty against unbridled lust.

Sonja's Review

Oh my gosh! It has been too long since I've read one of Kresley Cole's books and I just can't tell you how amazing it was reading Sweet Ruin! And even though I knew that it was going to be a great read and that I would love it - that still didn't prepare me for this book at all. At first, I will admit that I wasn't sure how she would possibly be able to top Dark Skye, but I shouldn't have had any doubts because although Lanthe and Thronos' story will probably always be my favorite, Sweet Ruin is definitely Ms. Cole's best book yet! It was absolutely extraordinary and I wholeheartedly loved, loved, LOVED it!!

Rune Darklight is one sexy immortal - I actually think I'm a little jealous of Jo! I mean, sometimes I want to kill or at the very least maim him because he can be such an idiotic jerk (which he will admit to) at times, but I really couldn't help but fall for him. Rune can be so sweet and when he gets all protective, possessive, dominant, and jealous with all the growling, intense fierceness? Well, whoo-ee, he's totally swoon/shiver-worthy - I just loved him!

I think I have a new favorite female in Immortals After Dark series and her name is Jo! Seriously, Jo is just awesome! She's amusing and witty, confident and strong, and she's a little mischievous troublemaker. Jo knows her mind, she's honest, she's unflinchingly loyal and will do anything for someone she loves. It was just such a joy to meet Jo and I can't wait to see her again!

Sweet Ruin in not the kind of book you can read while you're doing something else like watching TV, working, or socializing - it's the kind of book that demands your full attention, all of your focus, and needs to be savored. It is an exciting, outrageous journey full of passion, action, and heart. It will break your heart, get your blood pumping, keep you on the edge of your seat, and leave you gasping and wanting more!

Sweet Ruin was utterly epic, incredibly phenomenal, and without a doubt the best book I've read all year! It has left me with a huge book hangover afterglow and I'm so sad it's over, but it's definitely one book that I will be visiting again. Even more than that though, I absolutely, positively CANNOT WAIT to see what more Ms. Cole has in store for us because if you thought the Immortal After Dark World was big before, then let me tell you - it just got a whole lot bigger!

Sweet Ruin is a standalone, but it will be more enjoyable if the series is read in order. It is told from Rune and Jo's POV and of course, they get their happily-ever-after!

~ ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Stars
