They call me a slut. Maybe I am.
Sometimes I do things I despise.
Sometimes men take without asking.
But I have a musical gift, only a year left of high school, and a plan.
With one obstacle.
Emeric Marceaux doesn’t just take.
He seizes my will power and bangs it like a dark note.
When he commands me to play, I want to give him everything.
I kneel for his punishments, tremble for his touch, and risk it all for our stolen moments.
He’s my obsession, my master, my music.
And my teacher.

Meet the author
New York Times and USA Today Bestselling author, Pam Godwin, lives in the Midwest with her husband, their two children, and a foulmouthed parrot. When she ran away, she traveled fourteen countries across five continents, attended three universities, and married the vocalist of her favorite rock band.
Java, tobacco, and dark romance novels are her favorite indulgences, and might be considered more unhealthy than her aversion to sleeping, eating meat, and dolls with blinking eyes.

Sonja's Review
As soon as I saw that Ms. Godwin had a new book coming out, I couldn't wait to read it and when I saw that it was a student/teacher romance I got even more excited! I love a good forbidden romance, but much like the elegant, beautiful, dark cover, the story reflected that same beauty, elegance, and darkness. Dark Notes was one outstanding read and I wholeheartedly looooved it!
I didn't know what to expect of Ivory going in, but I doubt any would have mattered in the end because I loved Ivory and no expectation would have done her justice. She's so strong and with all the darkness that has touched her and invaded her mind, her heart is still mostly light and pure and good. Ivory is not like any other seventeen-year-old girl or any girl for that matter - she's mature and driven, sweet and innocent, sassy and passionate - she's just her own person and I absolutely loved her. Ivory is a wonderful heroine and you'll be happy to have known her.
I've always loved Pam Godwin's heroes, they've been some of my favorites, and Emeric was no different - I just loved that man! He, of course, has the whole dominant, bossy alpha thing down with all the possessive, protectiveness that goes with it that I love - like really love - but what I loved even more than all those hot, delicious qualities, was the way Emeric feels about Ivory. He's so devoted to her and it's obvious how much he loves her. He's supportive, understanding, patient, and makes you feel warm and safe. Emeric is wonderful and he completely stole my heart!
Dark Notes might be a forbidden love story between a teacher and a student, but it didn't feel like Emeric and Ivory's relationship was forbidden. Everything about it and them was right and beautiful, powerful and passionate, and real and true. They were just always meant to be and I fell in love with their love story. Dark Notes was a beautiful, seductive, heartbreaking, but also an exceptional, heartwarming story and one my favorite, best reads of the year!
Dark Notes is a standalone, it's told from Emeric and Ivory's POV, and they get a wonderful happily-ever-after ending!
